Description
These boxed puzzles introduce the alternative spellings for each phoneme from Phase Five of Letters and Sounds. Some of these alternatives will have already been encountered in the high-frequency words that have been previously taught. Set 1 covers consonants and digraphs; Set 2 covers short and ‘r’ controlled vowels; and Set 3 covers long vowel sounds. The self-correcting puzzles allow children to group these different graphemes in a jigsaw puzzle based on the common phoneme, with only the correct pieces able to fit together. Learning these alternative spelling patterns will support not only decoding, but also encoding when children are searching for the correct spelling pattern of a word during writing. Each boxed puzzle (260 x 205mm) contains 40 pieces 82 x 85mm.
